How do we respond to the city as place? Do physical structures affect our sensations? for the journey between escapist and preventative exists in the form of a proposal. Located in a car park, a temporary ramp-like structure will invite the public to respond to its possible purpose – an imaginary prompt to escape? A shelter?
Small, seemly everyday things happen at the guard post during the entire festival. These events are related to the history of the post and its surroundings. They are like situational flashbacks. The audience can follow these micro-processes on their own TV sets once per hour during the whole festival.
The piece activates the day-care centre when the usual users are not there. Night home consists of used dolls, projected video and sound. The video and sound are performative and associated with this specific day-care centre. The dolls represent being away and projecting images on to them gives them a new concrete level of interpretation.
Laitinen runs in his self-made iron wheel until he is soaked in sweat and then he launches his sweaty body onto photographic paper. In his previous works he has developed this technique with which sweat can be used to make pictures. Exposure to bright light makes the body image visible. Sweatwork ends as the figure is lifted onto a wall.
For a few minutes each, one person at a time can join the two performers from ultr and sit with them as they try to synchronise the sound of their heartbeats. Together with the performers, the solo audience forms a brief triptych, seen in reflections that appear and disappear in a unique and intimate event.
The Race begins in the dairy section. At the start, Runner #1 from Team A and Runner # 1 from Team B, each carrying a liter of milk, begin the course towards personal products. Once in the aisle, they locate shower gel, deposit milk, and carry the gel to Runner #2 from Team A and Runner #2 from Team B waiting at the end of the aisle. “Otama” is a knitted tadpole. It is useless, meaningless. It is just a tadpole toy.
Otama is Takamiya’s work, but at the same time it is also a character that everybody can make. There is only one rule in otama making: it has to be a knitted woollen tadpole. Since it is just up to the person knitting, every otama is very personal and characteristic. Colors, sizes, faces… all are up to you and you will see a tadpole having ears (even hairy ones) or wearing glasses!
