Johanna Lecklin (FI): Story Cafe

A story-telling café for the whole family to visit.

As Johanna Lecklin’s Story Café travels around the world she invites visitors to tell her a story. In exchange for stories Johanna offers visitors a drink and the chance to sit, relax and listen to other stories collected from her travels.

Visit the Story Café and add your story to the ever-growing collection.

Return the following day to see your story as a short-film, with Johanna acting-out all the parts!

Johanna Lecklin (FI)

Johanna Lecklin works in video, film and photography and has recently moved her practice towards live art. Story Café playfully explores ideas of community on both a local and global level. The work deals with similarities and differences across cultures while offering visitors a free space to listen and watch collected stories and offer ones of their own. Lecklin’s filmed performances, where the performer is commanded by the invisible presence of a voice-over, locates her work on the boundary between documentary and fiction-based practices.

Johanna Lecklin is currently working on a PhD at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki. Her solo shows include Photographic Gallery Hippolyte, Helsinki and Tallinn Arthall, Linnagalerie. Group shows include Biennale of Young Artists, Tallinn and the Limerick Biennale (2006). Her work has also shown at many international festivals including Rencontres Internationales, Paris, Raindance Film Festival London and Pépinières européennes, Biarritz. In 2001 Lecklin won the Year Prize of the Artists’ Association of Finland.
