Volna (RU): Aalto

On-going
Kuopio City Theatre | Niiralankatu Street 2

Aalto is a light installation based on the natural structure of the wave and moves on the wide windows of the Kuopio City Theatre. The work transforms the wave into an associative geometric model and draws it into an architectural form. The rhythm of the natural movement of water is layered with the rhythm of the architecture of the building. This new media layer in the rhythmic figure of the facade shakes our perceptions of space and time.

The work is dedicated to the great Finnish architect Alvar Aalto, who worked with undulating shapes and whose name in Finnish – as the artists learnt working in Kuopio – stands for “wave” just like the Russian name of the group, Volna.
