La Pocha Nostra (US/MX): The Pocha Nostra performance intervention brigade

with local Finnish artists.
La Pocha Nostra is a loose association of rebel artists based in San Francisco with chapters in various countries including Mexico, Colombia, Brazil, Spain and the UK.
Two founding members of La Pocha Nostra, Guillermo Gómez-Peña and Roberto Sifuentes along with a 3rd European member Silvia Antolin will colaborate with three Finnish artists on a series of public performance art interventions. On Friday and Saturday the ephemeral crew will visit various public sites in the city and stage humorous and provocative performance interventions. The goal is to asses the public’s tolerance for otherness and notions of performance art while incorporating them into the piece and at the same time to generate a hit and run mythology.

About La Pocha Nostra
”La Pocha Nostra is an ever morphing “trans-disciplinary arts organization”. Based in San Francisco with factions in many other countries and cities, our mission statement reads: “[We] provide a center (and forum) for a loose network of rebel artists from various disciplines, generations and ethnic backgrounds.” Our common denominator is our desire to cross and erase dangerous borders between art and politics, practice and theory, artist and spectator, mentor and apprentice. We strive to eradicate myths of purity and dissolve borders surrounding culture, ethnicity, gender, language, and métier. Sadly, in these times, these are still considered radical acts. The Spanglish neologism ‘Pocha Nostra’ translates as either ‘our impurities’ or “the cartel of cultural bastards”. We love this poetic ambiguity. It reveals an attitude towards art and society: “Cross-racial, poly-gendered, experi-mental, y que?”
