Aaron Williamson (UK): The marooned wildman

One fateful weekend in October 2007 Vasikkasaari island appeared to be inhabited by a madman, a wildman of the lake. Hidden from view and only glimpsed from the shore his desperate calls rallied the city – police lines were jammed, people hurried to the harbour – what was happening, what was he calling, what did he want? Well, he’s back – and this time we can go over to island and meet him. ‘No man is an island’ right? So let’s make contact.

Aaron Williamson (UK)

Over the last 15 years Aaron Williamson has created over 200 performances across the world. He first appeared at ANTI in 2007 where, for eight hours he used a megaphone to shout ‘I am an Island’ whilst circling the island’s shore. Often using the guise of a ‘sham-shaman’ or ‘pretend-primitive’ Williams’ work is informed by his experience of becoming deaf and is a challenge to the romantic valorisation of social ‘outsiderness’.

You will be transported to the island by boats. The boats are leaving from the harbour behind the Scandic hotel at 18:00 every night of the performance. The duration of the performance is about one hour.

Please, pre book your place by sending email to registration(at)antifestival.com or to the number +358 50 305 2005. Remember to inform the date you want to take part in the performance. During the festival week booking is available ONLY in the festival centre. Book before 16:00 for that day trip. Places are limited.
