Constructing Sand
10.9. – 14.9.
The exact time and place of the performance will be announced later.
Participation
The audience makes the artwork by building houses and other elements of the city from sand. The piece is suitable for all ages and you can participate without commitment alone or with friends. There is no time limit for participating and you can spend as much time working with the sand as you wish.
For participating during the instructed workshop you only need yourself and clothes suitable for sitting in the sand. If you wish to take part independently we recommend bringing a bucket and a small shovel, but it isn’t mandatory if you don’t mind getting your hands dirty.
Languages
Finnish and English.
The students from Art and Media Department of Aalto University will carry out diverse projects, interventions, performances and exhibitions in public spaces.
Don’t be a bad city, be a good city!
Come build your dream house, a neighbourhood or a whole district. Does the city have a dozen candy stores, five libraries or a hundred parks? Where do the streets lead?
You get to decide.
Join us to experiment and to take a moment to build sandhouses. With buckets and shovels – familiar from childhood – we’ll create and discuss, what kind of a city would the Kuopio of your dreams be like. Sand as a material is organic and takes different forms. Working with it doesn’t require previous experience or fancy equipment.
You can take part in the community art independently at any hours during the festival or you can participate in the guided workshop on set times.
This project is part of a long-term collaboration between ANTI Festival and Aalto University, in which the festival serves as a platform for a course in artistic research.
