Learning Lab for Text Workers

Tekstin talo

Tekstin talo (House of Text) is a new cultural centre that opened in Helsinki in 2023, bringing together key players in the literary field under one roof. The centre is home to numerous cultural organisations and hosts a wide variety of cultural events. The mission of Tekstin talo is to support creators of textual art, to foster the emergence of new types of text-based content and productions, and to attract new audiences to literature and textual art.

Tekstin talo brings to Kuopio a Learning Lab tailored for text workers who work alone and in varying working conditions.

The day focuses on working with factual and historical material. Presentations will address the relationship between text and its evidentiary weight. In the workshop, attendees will explore how archives operate and learn about collective data collection. The program will be held in Finnish.

Participants will also enjoy lunch together, and enhance peer support. The event provides writers, artists, researchers, and others working with text a shared space in which to meet, learn, and support one another.

The event is part of Tekstin talo’s nationwide literary field development project, supported by Kone Foundation. Previous events have included i.a. discussions on the professional identity of writers and debunking myths about grants.

Tekstin talo, the House of Text, is a literary community and multifunctional space for text culture, located in Helsinki.
