Left Behind is Chiara Bersani’s new project leading to the creation of a production for three to five performers: among them some will be with motor disability.
The project is inspired by the mechanisms of the horror film genre meant as a symbol of a stratified state of tension, emotion, oppression, which current society tends to remove and replace with comforting and conforming narratives. The artist questions the scathing lineages of fear and explores the existence of a possibility for marginalized subjects to generate fear, in addition to facing it, and to reclaim the denied right to provoke it.
In the space of the repressed, scaring becomes a field for confirmation, a place for potential affirmation. The performance explores fear as agency, the catalytic principle of the creative process.
Chiara Bersani is nominated for the 2025 ANTI Festival International Prize for Live Art. The Prize is funded by the Saastamoinen Foundation (2025–2029). From now on the Prize will be awarded once every two years.
