Madeleine Flynn & Tim Humphrey (AU): Megaphone project

The Megaphone project is an interactive sound installation where 25 striking red megaphones create an illusion of the miracle of the wireless tin-can telephones of childhood.  The artists and the audience together produce sound fields with the megaphones where each individual’s sound affects everyone else. The installation offers the public an experience of finding their own voice while remaining part of the wider sound community.

The Megaphone project has been a phenomenal success in Australia over the past three years. It has visited the Works Festival Hobart and the Sydney Festival in Australia, the International Performing Arts for Youth event in Philadelphia and the LEAF Festival in Asheville, North Carolina. It is estimated that approximately 90,000 people of different ages have experienced the installation.
