Heli Hietala (FI): Verkko

A web, a thread, a visualised idea of a continuum with multiple meanings. A space, a room or a corridor captivates the perceiver’s imagination whilst forcing the self to confront its place within space. Every moment ricochets onto an occupier of space and thus it creates communication. Space is like a reflection of something, but does the perceiver create the space and the eventsor does the environment control the perceiver? It operates as a field of events where small changes bring about stories that at best take place. within the perceiver’s own imagination. Space can only attempt to set boundaries for what has or will happen.

Heli Hietala has graduated as an industrial designer from the University of Art and Design in Helsinki in 2002. In addition to designing objects she has been involved in art-centered projects like set design, painting as well as conceptual jewellery design. Her works stem from the central idea of finding the question that enables one to pose more questions. “I think of art as a road and a language that opens new vistas and functions as an unconstrained communication tool”
