Closer
Entering a small apartment, alone, the viewer detects faint traces of a possible occupant. The ticking of clocks in empty rooms further emphasising the quiet intimacy of this private space.
Closer is a further development in Hymers’ interest around the idea of the gaze, and her desire to engender an audience’s complicity with her work.
Since graduating from Chelsea College of Art and Design in 2004, Hymers has continued to work across video, photography and performance, utilising her own body to create disconcertingly intimate images that resonate with a fragile vunerability. Recent performances and exhibitions include Live Art Falmouth, Cornwall, The National Review of Live Art, Glasgow, Artsadmin Summer Season, London and Kettle’s Yard Open, Cambridge.
