Framings

Framings is an interactive movement score, a dance menu if you will, through which the site, its architecture, flows of movement, sounds, people etc. are explored and interacted with. The menu items can be considered as frames through which the patterns and connections in the site can become embodied and revealed, creating conditions for something to happen. The menu will be visible for the audience, and open for participation and interpretation.

This piece aims to activate the audience’s/participants perceptions in the urban environment and disturb some of the set behavioural codes that we easily slip into and carry along in our daily lives.

Satu Palokangas is a dancer/performance artist, a certified Laban Movement Analyst and a Somatic Movement Educator and is currently finishing her MA in Performance Art and Theory at the Theatre Academy of Helsinki. Her background is deeply imbedded in movement, improvisation and somatic studies. She is curious about change, intimacy and the act of inhaling back our authority from the external forces. Currently she defines her work as interactivism, or a form of social choreography, while happily bending these terms to fit her needs.
