The Longest Lecture Marathon
The Longest Lecture Marathon is a part of a larger project called The Researcher, Rousi has been working on The Researcher since 2004. The project was created as an objection to the reconstitution of racism and class-stratification presented by educational and research institutions. The Researcher has performed across the globe in lecture theatres and storage rooms. Until now very little live documentation has been acquired as she usually presents herself in everyday situations. The only evidence that she has collected of her presence is certificates and the occasional university promotional brochure picture. For the first time in Kuopio, The Researcher will deliver The Lecture Marathon, where she will speak about “Culturalism in integrated Life Long Learning”.
Rebekah Rousi was born and raised in Adelaide, South Australia before she left to seek greener pastures in the United States of America. She then moved to Sweden, from where she began exhibiting as a painter in Central Finland in 1998. After studying Visual Art at the Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia, where she majored in printmaking, her practice has consisted of digital printmaking, drawing and performance. Rousi’s work attempts to observe, utilise, embellish and pervert institutional frameworks of Modern Western Thinking, which has taken her subject matter from deteriorating warehouses to local libraries.
