The Human Voice is His Own Image
This work gives voice to 4 people known by Johanna Väisänen. These people are of various age and all lead very different lives. What unites them is that their lives have all suffered quite tragic events and these events have appeared as stories and headlines in the local press. Väisänen wants to give these people a chance to have their voice and thoughts heard without interference from a journalistic process that may alter the story in order for it to fit with an editorial brief. The aim of the work is to experience the human presence, the human sound in his/her own environment.
Johanna Väisänen creates video works and installations, photography and sound-based works. She finds inspiration for her work in the environment and she is interested in the changes in the character of a place in relation to her works. In some of her works she has observed the behaviour and character of animals in a man-made environment and she has approached depicting humans that way.
